Prime Minister Stephen Harper is one of the most information-controlled prime ministers in recent history, claim the president of the Parliamentary Press Gallery and political observers.
Under Mr. Harper (Calgary Southwest, Alta.), the level of message control has deepened so much that political spin, the kind a reporter would expect to see coming from a minister's office, has now bled into what should be fact-based departmental responses to questions, says Le Devoir reporter and press gallery president Hélène Buzzetti.
Ms. Buzzetti and the heads of eight other Canadian journalism associations outlined their concern for the lack of information coming out of the Harper government in an open letter printed in newspapers across the country earlier this month.
